Article: The 'Why' of Well Worn

The 'Why' of Well Worn

The 'Why' of Well Worn

These heirloom timepieces are the 'Why' behind The Well Worn Watch. My father, grandfathers, and great-grandfathers all appreciated exquisitely designed and crafted timepieces.

Here's a glimpse at a few of these remarkable well worn watches.

c. 1950's Jaeger-LeCoultre 'Powermatic'

The watch that most epitomizes The Well Worn Watch is my father's gold-filled c. 1950's Jaeger-LeCoultre automatic 'Powermatic' power reserve watch. Dad loved this LeCoultre because of its intrinsic quality. After much research, I deduced this watch was most likely his dad's, and dad was still wearing it until the very end.

After an accident made it painful for him to walk, he would sit with a watch on each wrist,  winding the watches by rolling and shaking both hands until each watch was fully wound. Usually his Rolex DateJust was on his left wrist, and the LeCoultre on his right.

When the LeCoultre was passed down to me, I had no idea just how unique the watch was. At first, I thought the movement was loose or broken because, when I moved the watch from side to side, I felt and heard thumping, thudding sound.

However, after much research, I realized this was the nature of this LeCoultre watch. It was, in fact, a feature of the legendary Caliber 481. Little did I know, at the time, that the Powermatic had a charming "bumper rotor," charging the main spring with every wrist movement. Mystery solved.

After discovering the charm of this LeCoultre, l now also have an enduring love for this watch.

1909 Elgin Gold Pocket Watch

The second watch of interest is my great-grandfather's 1909 Elgin gold pocket watch, which reflects his commitment to enduring excellence and horological heritage.

The movement is a work of art and science — beautiful to behold and a mesmerizing movement to watch. This particular model is engraved with my great-grandfather's initials and still keeps great time some 116 years later!

More on these beautiful timepieces, later. But both of these watches serve as a testament to the power of legacy timepieces.

Honoring Forefathers

The Well Worn Watch is a continuation of my father's, grandfather's, and great-grandfather's noble pursuit of leaving lasting legacies based on timeless style, meticulous design, and exquisite materials. It's more than just keeping time. It's about keeping time to spend it wisely.

Our watch band collections combine the same commitment to refined aesthetics and exquisite craftsmanship, as these two timepieces reflect, resulting in a rekindled invitation to well worn watch luxury and time well spent.

Your Invitation

Allow me to invite you to starting building your own collection of exquisite watch straps and watch accessories to help with your own legacy of your well worn watches.

Until we meet again, make the very most of time, seizing every opportunity. (Eph 5:16)
